When is the best time for newborn photos?
I like to complete newborn sessions within the first 12-14 days after birth. This is when your beautiful little human is nice and squishy, sleepy and curly. However, sessions can be run with older newborns of 1-2 months but it's important to keep in mind that these sessions may run a little longer based on their temperament.
How far in advance should I book?
As I only take a limited number of monthly bookings (so that I have room to move sessions around based on the variability of due dates), I recommend booking your newborn session in as early as possible to secure your date. Some sessions are booked in as early as just after the 12 week scan and I recommend at least 6 weeks in advance. If you've left it late to organise you can still certainly get in touch and I can fit you in where possible.
Where should we have our photos?
This is ultimately up to you and what you personal taste is. In saying that, I usually run newborn sessions in your own home where you and your bubs are most comfortable and maternity sessions are generally a mix of both. Your home doesn't need to be perfect or spotless, it just needs to represent you and your life.
Otherwise, if you want to rug up in the cold of the mountains? Give bubs a feed on beach with the perfect sunset? Lie around the soft grass at the local national park? Let’s do it.
What should we wear to our photo session?
Just do you.
I don’t want you to be uncomfortable during your session, so your outfit is always up to you. I recommend something simple but, most importantly, comfortable.
If you’ll be involving your partner and other children in the session, try not to go overboard with matching outfits. Soft and neutral tones work best and ideally, you want to avoid any large branding or logos as they distract and take away from the photo.
As for your little one, if you’ve got an outfit you’d like to be included in the photos, just make sure you have it ready. Throughout the session we’ll swap between an outfit, wraps, bare skin etc. I do bring along many different wraps and blankets to use as well.
Do you service my area?
I’m located on the lower north shore Sydney and love travelling around to photograph your special moments. Any sessions within 80km’s are included with no travel cost and any distance above this is will attract a small fee of 0.30c per driven km. For any domestic or international travel requirements, get in touch.
Do you have your whooping cough vaccination?
As a father myself, I’m also always fully up-to-date with my whooping cough vaccinations. The health and safety of your bubs is just as important to me as capturing their perfect little moments. My hands are always cleaned before sessions and sanitised throughout. My camera, lenses and any props/wraps/blankets are also cleaned after each session to avoid the transfer of any nasties. This also means that I’ll never place or pose your little one in an unsafe position.
What happens if my due date changes?
When booking newborn sessions I always give you a tentative date. This is the date and time that we'll go ahead with if everything goes to plan. In the event that your due date changes, either planned or if your little one decides to join us early, just get in touch with me as soon as you can. I take limited booking each month for this exact reason, so that I can easily reschedule as required.
How soon after the sessions will we get our photos?
I love to give you a little sneak peek as soon as possible. Generally, I'll send 1 or 2 fully edited images across within 24-48 hours as a little sneak peek. As for your full digital gallery, please allow up to 2 weeks, although I usually have these ready within a week.
Prints and other print products will be ready for you within 2-3 weeks from the date of order.
